You'll meet your driving guide at the port at 8:00 or 8:30 a.m. and head for Marlia, just north of Lucca, where you'll visit the park of Villa Reale. This villa originally belonged to Napoleon Bonaparte's sister, Princess of Lucca, and later became property of the King of Italy.
Its park is considered the most elegantly designed Italian style garden/park in the region. The Garfagnana, is an environmentally intact valley north of Lucca, full of nature, history and gorgeous mediaeval villages. The drive over the peaceful hills and mountains of the Garfagnana region will be an unforgettable experience. On a spectacular mountain road we will cross the beautiful Apuane Alps and reach Carrara Marble District. Wanting to save time, so to be able to include Lucca in the itinerary and eventually have lunch there, you can get to Carrara via motorway.

Carrara Marble Quarries - A marble Cadillac!

Even in case you decide to drive on the motorway to reach Carrara, as you will come closer to the quarries you'll see mountains that are entirely made of this snow-white pure material, driving on roads carved into the Marble itself, you will enter the Quarries, where the views you will have are absolutely breath-taking. These are the quarries where Michelangelo used to spend a lot of time at looking for the special block of marble that, according to what he said, already had the statue in it!

After the quarries we will visit the "Marble Museum" containing documents, models and pieces showing how the marble techniques have changed through the centuries.

Return to the ship around 5:30 pm.
